De laatste tijd vergelijk ik het leven en de daarmee gepaard gaande sleur met een gezelschapsspel. Ik beeld mij in dat we, voordat we geboren worden, voor een grote kast staan en we, totaal onbewust van ons eigen zijn, gedwongen worden een spel te kiezen. Zodra we een keuze hebben gemaakt, kan de koers naar de overwinning worden ingezet en voordat we het goed en wel beseffen, zitten we in de ratrace. Naargelang het spel vordert, komen er echter twijfels of we wel goed bezig zijn. Ik was op een punt gekomen dat ik mij afvroeg of ik wel het juiste spel gekozen had en ik droomde ervan nog eens met de dobbelstenen te kunnen gooien om opnieuw langs start te passeren.
Lately, I have been comparing life and its daily routine with a board game. I imagine that before we are born, we stand in front of a big cupboard and choose a game. Once we have made our choice, the course to victory is set and before we realise it, we are in the rat race. As the game progresses, however, doubts arise as to whether we are doing the right thing. I had reached a point where I wondered if I had chosen the right game and I dreamed of being able to roll the dice once more and start over again.
Cassi (31) staat op een kruispunt in haar leven. Ze twijfelt aan haar huwelijksplannen met Daniel, is uitgekeken op haar job en de communicatie met familie en vrienden verloopt stroef. Ze hunkert ernaar eens rustig en alleen te kunnen nadenken. De vraag van haar grootmoeder om de zolder op te ruimen, in het voor de rest leegstaande huis, komt dan ook als geroepen. Maar ze blijkt er niet alleen te zijn.
Zullen de familiegeheimen en intriges uit het verleden Cassi inzicht brengen in het heden? ‘Reizigers op doorreis’ is een familieroman over relaties, voor jezelf opkomen en het maken van keuzes.
At the age of 31, Cassi is at a crossroads in her life. She has misgivings about her plans to marry Daniel, is bored with her job, and her relationship with family and friends is difficult. She yearns to be alone to think quietly and calmly for once. So, her grandmother’s request to clear out an attic in an otherwise empty house comes at just the right time. But it turns out Cassi is not even alone there.
Will the family secrets and intrigues of the past bring Cassi insight into the present?
